Dear Grade 6 Students and Parents:
This trimester we have looked at two of the different game categories: Target games and Territory Invasion games.
Your assignment for this trimester is to compare and contrast the two sport categories.
Today we revied the two sport categories and experimented with equipment and inquired into each of the aspects mentioned below.
You will be required to compare the sport categories by looking at the above aspects: Objective, Structure, Strategies, and Examples of sports.
(The first row above referes to the objective of each sport category and the second row referes to examples of sports that fall into each category.)
Target Games Structures and Strategies
Territory Invasion Games Structures and Strategies
On Monday, November 1st – Students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of the two sport categories by creating a compare and contrast diagram of the two categories. This can be done using a Chart or a Venn Diagram. On Thursday, October 28th, the students will be given a ‘rough copy’ of the assignment which they can complete at home and will bring to their class the following Monday to use as a reference for their assessment. (If students are absent on Monday, they will be given a chance to complete their assignment on Thursday, November 4th.)
Students will be assessed on their use of knowledge using the following rubric:
|1–2||The use of terminology is inconsistent, inappropriate or incorrect. Demonstrates limited knowledge of principles and rules related to Target and Territory Invasion Games. Doesn’t show enough knowledge to solve problems.|
|3–4||Uses basic terminology that is sometimes inaccurate or inappropriate. Demonstrates a basic knowledge of principles and rules related to Target and Territory Invasion Games. Uses his or her knowledge to solve problems in some familiar situations.|
|5–6||Uses a satisfactory range of terminology accurately and appropriately in some situations. Demonstrates good knowledge of principles and rules related to Target and Territory Invasion Games. Uses his or her knowledge well to solve problems in some familiar and unfamiliar situations.|
|7–8||Uses a good range of terminology accurately and appropriately in most situations. Demonstrates excellent knowledge of principles, concepts and rules related to Target and Territory Invasion Games. Uses his or her knowledge effectively and solves problems in many situations.|
